Första fönstret monterat mm - The first window is mounted (and more)

Idag var det riktigt kul. Våra duktiga snickare kom över och gjorde en massa. Bland annat så fick den andra gaveln panel. Riktigt kul var det att se det första fönstret monterat. Jag passade på att måla en av gavelspetsarna så att vi kan få på springläkten. På bilderna kan ni också se att garaget är klart för att lägga tegel på och den vackra vindflöjel (ett drakhuvud) som vi kommer att montera på en av gavelspetsarna.

Today was a really funny day. Our skilled carpenters came over and (as always) accomplished a lot. Among a lot of things they completed the other gable with panel. It was also really fun seeing the first window on place. I myself painted one of the gables. On the pictures you can also see that the garage is ready to put roofing tiles on and the weather vane (a dragon head) that we will mount on top of one of the gables.

Vännerna bjuder på lunch - Our friends came over with lunch

En väldigt trevlig händelse var när våra vänner superjournalisten Stefan och informationsgurun Göran kom på besök och bjöd oss på lunch på arbetsplatsen!

It was very nice when our friends, superjournalist Stefan and informationguru Göran, came over and brought us lunch at the building site!

Ingen tidöver för att åka scooter - No time left to ride our scooter

När man bygger hus blir det inte mycket tid över för att åka scooter. Nån som är intresserad av att köpa den kanske?

When you build a house there is not much time left to ride the scooter. Maybe someone is interested in bying it?

På väg till jobbet - On the way to work

Här följer några bilder från Norrköping tagna på väg till jobbet.

You all probably know that we live in Linköping, Swedens 5:th largest town with 140.000 inhabitants in the municipality (=the city and some 15 km around it). Uppsala, Malmö, Gothenburg and of course Stockholm is the largest cities. Stockholm far outnumbers the others with some 1.800.000 inhabitants. Sweden has a quite small population (9 miljon inhabitants) and if you live in the south it's only 400 km from eastcoast to westcoast but a little bit longer to the north (1800 km from south to north). The average size of a town in the countryside has around 50-100.000 inhabitants. I work in town called Norrköping which is another almost as big town as Linköping located some 50 km east of our town.

Here I present you with some fresh pictures taken yesterday on my way to work in the morning and back home in the evening. I will comment them from top to bottom (and if there's no room for more I will continue in the next post).

Gavelspetsar och dekorfönster - The top of the gables and decorative windows

Det var ett tag sedan jag hann sätta mig ned att skriva. Min semester är nu slut och jag har nu inte bara husbygget att tänka på...

Gavelspetsarna är nu snart helt täckta med panel. För att göra dessa lite vackrare har vi bestämt oss för att montera spröjsade halvmånefönster. Garaget har fått papp och bärläkt och snart förhoppningsvis även betongpannor.

It was a while since I had time to write. My vacation has come to an end and now I also need to focus on working...

The top of the gables are soon totally covered by wooden panel. To make these a bit more beautiful we decided to mount semicircle shaped windows with the typical thin bars that separates the windowglass. The garage roof is covered with waterproof textile and will soon be ready for the roofing tiles.

Att bygga i månskenet - Building under the moonshine

Nu kanske det blir en smula tydligare varför jag valt namnet månskensbyggarn i blogadressen. Det har nämligen redan blivit många sena kvällar på bygget och ikväll blev det en till. Många fler kommer det att bli...Ikväll byggde jag om ställningen så att det ska gå att bygga igen gavelspetsarna.

Now it's maybe easier to understand why I chose the blogaddress "manskensbyggarn" (=The moonshine carpenter). I've been building a lot late in the evenings and tonight I've rebuilt the scaffold so the gables (short sides of the house) can be completed. There will be a lot of evening work in the coming months...

Snickarna kom på kvällen och lade ut takpannorna på andra sidan på taket. Nu är det bara taknocken kvar!

Snickarna kom förbi på kvällen och lade tegel på ena sidan på ett par timmar. Snyggt!

Teglet lyfts upp på taket - Time to lift up the roofing tiles

Här lyfts takteglet upp med hjälp av en kranbil. Sammanlagt lyftes ca 2000 pannor upp på ett par timmar. Skönt att slippa springa med dem på stege...

Here you can see how the roofing tiles are lifted up on the roof. The man in the red t-shirt standing on the ground (seen on the last picture) is controlling the truck/crane with a wireless remote control. In just two hours he lifted 2000 tiles up on the roof. Thank god I didn't have to run up and down a ladder with all these...

Lite mer om sopförbränning - Some more about burning garbage

Sopförbränning och fjärrvärmetillverkning (och distribution) är en ganska fascinerande historia. Idén med att bränna upp det som är brännbart är naturligtvis briljant men det är även kommunens ekonomiska modell för processen. Hushållen sorterar vad som är brännbart respektive icke brännbart och betalar en avgift för att bli av med sina sopor. Kommunen använder sedan soporna som bränsle i sin värmeproduktion och säljer sedan värmen till hushållen. Kanske skulle man investera i ett fjärrvärmeverk...(eller bygga sin egen privata anläggning)

Imponerande dock att man eldar upp totalt 400.000 ton avfall årligen vilket värmer 25.000 villor (jämte en massa lägenheter, kontor, butiker och industrier) och att svensken i genomsnitt återvinner 95% av hushållsavfallet (dvs glasavfall blir till nya glasflaskor, metallskrot sorteras och blir till ny metall, brännbart material blir till värme etc).

Burning garbage and distributing heat via an extensive network of hotwater pipes is quite a fascinating story. The idea of burning what can be burnt is brilliant but so is also the municipal business model. The households sorts their garbage (basically) into two fractions - one that can be burnt and one that can't. The households pay to get rid of the garbage. The municipality then uses the garbage for heat production and then sells the heating to the households. Maybe one should invest in a municipal heating production facility...(or build your own private one).

The municipal heat production units in Linköping combined burns 400.000 tonnes of garbage per year and then distributes heating to aproximately 25.000 villas (alongside a large number of appartments, offices, stores and factories) in and around the city. The average Swede recycles 95% of household garbage (people sort glass, metal, garbage that can be burnt at a number of small recycling stations placed in and around the city. The sorted garbage is then turned in to new glass bottles, new metal, heating and so on). The pictures shows the recycling model, one of the largest heat production facilities and a map of all facilities in and around Linköping.

Dags att slänga sopor - Time to get rid of some garbage

Det är inte bara att bygga - det gäller att hålla lite snyggt på byggarbetsplatsen också. Idag åkte vi till Tekniska Verken med första lasset. Imponerande anläggning må jag säga och ett bra alternativ till soptippar (som på bilden längst upp). Kommunen tar emot avfall från drygt 30 andra kommuner för att genom eldning göra om soporna till fjärrvärme.

It's not only building that is important. One has to clean the building site and get rid of all the garbage as well. Today we went to the municipal garbage recycling site (pictured on the drawing) with our trailer fully loaded. It's an impressive activity (the garbage recycling) I must say and much better than storing garbage as usual (like on the picture at the top). They take care of garbage from more than 30 other municipalities around Sweden. The garbage is sorted by the consumer and is then (burned and) turned in to hot water (for heating) that is distributed to houses in and around Linköping via a gigantic network of hot water pipes.

Alexander 1 år - Alexanders first birthday

Den femte augusti fyllde sonen 1 år! Alex visste inte riktigt vad han skulle göra med de inslagna presenterna men men med lite hjälp så lyckades han öppna dem.

The fifth of August it was time for Alexanders 1st birthday. He didn't exactly know what to do with the presents but with a little help he managed to open them.

After covering the roof with wood it was completed with waterproof textile and the frame that holds the roofing tiles on place.

Idag byggdes taket! - Today the roof was built!

Idag var en fantastisk dag! Våra snickare - idag fyra till antalet - kämpade från 7 på morgonen till 18:30 på kvällen med att tillsammans med kranbilsförare Stefan lyfta upp alla takstolar och montera råsponten. Imorgon är det dags för ditmontering av takpapp!

Today was a fantastic day! Our carpenters - today four persons in total - worked hard from 7 in the morning to 18:30 in the evening together with crane turck driver Stefan in order to lift the roof onto the walls and mount all parts. Tomorrow it's time for the tar paper (which stops rain from going through the roof) to be mounted!
